Trogir

  Its name comes from the Greek word Tragos, which means goat and it is assumed to be associated with the name of a nearby mountain. Trogir is one of the oldest urban centers on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic. The first traces of life date back to around 2000 BC. In 4000 years of history Trogir was experiencing the ups and downs but has managed to preserve its uniqueness. It was built on a small island separated from the mainland by the canal and from the nearby island of Ciovo by the sea narrow passageway. It is almost entirely built in stone, hence the name also "Stone city". Is divided into the civilian part where there are mainly dwellings, situated in a narrow cobbled streets and the administrative headquarters  where are located: the Cathedral of St. Lawrence (which houses the famous baptistery, main portal of the cathedral -Radovanov portal, Chapel of Blessed Ivana of Trogir) Municipal palace, City porch, Church of Saint Sebastian, Cipiko Palace.Such a cultural heritage and a mild Mediterranean climate (230 sunny days per year) allowed him to merit the title of one of the "Pearl of the Adriatic" and become one of the major Croatian  tourist resorts. In the 1997 Has also been included on the list of world heritage by UNESCO.
